ABOUT THE WEBINAR
In this comprehensive overview, you’ll discover 13 thinking, writing, and revising tactics to help you write tighter, more polished first drafts. Your stories will include thematic heft, tantalizing plots, and lyrical prose that ripples with sensory clarity.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
1. Choosing a powerful conflict to drive your plot
2. Three questions designed to help you determine whether to use a linear or nonlinear structure
3. Jane’s Plotting Roadmap—integrating plot Twists, plot Reversals, and moments of heightened Danger (TRDs) helps control pace
4. How to develop characters that resonate with emotional truth
5. Crafting a compelling opening readers can’t resist
6. Isolating your characters to escalate conflict and suspense
7. Harnessing the power of quiet
8. The difference between surprise and suspense—you’ll know when and how to use each
9. Optimal sentence length, and how shortening sentences can ratchet up tension
10. How to “show, not tell,” by integrating specific, sensory references and avoiding labeling words
11. Ensuring your characters’ motivations align with your plot by cleverly weaving in backstory
12. Word choices—how to avoid echoing your “pet” words, “to be” verbs, adjectives, and adverbs—you’ll know how to find strong, targeted verbs and nouns
13. Creating metaphors, what Aristotle called “a gift to your readers”
At the end of this live webinar, you will have a good sense of how to tap into your writing strengths and where you should focus your efforts to improve your work.
